Has anyone else had major problems with David’s Bridal?
I bought my dress at Davids and I’m really disappointed in it. I’m really short, so they had to alter it a lot…the lady was not very friendly with me at my first fitting, and seemed annoyed that she had to change so much about my dress. I was supposed to pick it up today, but the bottom of my dress was completely uneven (after paying over $190 to get it altered!) Also, I bought my dress off the floor, and they told me they’d fix all the beading that was messed up, and they forgot to! So now I have to wait a few more weeks before I can pick it up and I’m very frustrated! Just wondering if anyone else has had problems with them so I can warn my friends not to go there. I was trying to save a few bucks by getting my dress there…I guess you get what you pay for :-/

Where to find affordable but nice wedding dresses in Indianapolis or surrounding areas?
I’m actually from Muncie, so someplace closer to here would be awesome.. but i’m willing to drive a bit for the perfect wedding gown. I’m trying to find some good bridal shops that have affordable dresses. I want something beautiful but I don’t want to spend a fortune. This will be my 2nd wedding and while traditional.. it’ll be elegant and simple. My gown for my first wedding was $1500 and that was easy to spend.. but this time around it’s just me and my fiance with a little help from parents … but not like before. So any help would be great. I’m looking to spend less than $400 hopefully. But I want it to be a reputable shop. I know davids bridal but I’ve heard some bad things about them? Maybe someone can help me see otherwise? I don’t know. Thanks!
The david’s bridal on 82nd St in Indy is actually quite good. I ordered my flower girl’s dress there (I ordered my dress at DB in Toledo, Ohio). They were VERY patient with my 5 year old cousin who LOVES to play dress up (she had to try on 10 dresses even though my aunt, my MOH, and I all knew what one we’d be ordering). I can’t remember the name of our consultant, but we didn’t have an appointment (I made a spur-of-the-moment trip out to Indy) and we were there on a Wed afternoon (after school). My only issue is that the store hasn’t actually called my aunt to let her know that my cousin’s dress is in. The Toledo store called me, and I was flipping out, thinking her dress was in Toledo. After I got off the phone with Toledo, I immediately called the Indy store to make sure the dress was there (even though Toledo told me it was…lol). Kind of weird to me, but maybe they call the bride to let her know that the dresses are in instead of calling the person who orders it. Oh well. Anyway, her dress has been in for close to 3 wks now, and my aunt STILL hasn’t heard anything from them (she’s picking it up this weekend, as her schedule has been pretty hectic lately, but still…I think she deserved a phone call).
*ADD* David’s Bridal seems to do better (for me, at least) when you DON’T make an appointment and go in at a non busy time. My MOH, mom, and I went to DB with no appt. to just check out BM dress colors and ended up ordering my dress that day. My consultant in Toledo that day was AMAZING. When they called and said my dress was in, I made an appt. with the same consultant and had crappy service (of course…she’d already gotten her commission off me….lol). I wanted to try the dress on there before we left, and make sure everything was as it should be, because I live over an hour away from the store. Well, there were a couple of loose beads on it. I was TICKED, because even the floor sample I’d tried on didn’t have loose beads, and this was a brand new dress. I said something to the consultant about it, and she said that there was nothing she could do. Mom and I were like, “OK, we’ll get it taken care of.” I got undressed, and as we were leaving, my consultant asked if I wanted to schedule an appt. for my BMs to come in. I told her, “No…first off, my bridesmaids are in Indianapolis, San Francisco, and Seoul, S. Korea. Second of all, since there is nothing you can do about this loose beading, even if they WERE in the area, we’d STILL go to Columbus and give someone who is actually willing to help us the commission.” She looked like she was about to cry!!! (My 3 BMs, my mom, and HIS mom are all planning on getting their dresses at Davids…lol. Granted, one BM will probably be buying off the rack and the other will be ordering in San Fran, but still….lol.) I just laughed as I walked out the door. And she called a couple of weeks later saying they could fix the loose beading for free if I brought it back up. I told her I found a seamstress who can’t stand David’s and offered to fix it for free and I didn’t have to drive an hour to get it done.

As the maid of honor in my sister’s wedding, should I plan to buy the couple a bigger gift?
I am covering all of the typical MoH expenses (bachelorette party, bridal shower, dress, shoes, etc)- and flying 2,500 miles to get to the wedding… and of course I plan to buy the happy couple a gift- but I’m not sure if it needs to be above and beyond the typical expense for a wedding gift ($75- $150?) or if I can focus on more sentimental value. Traditionally, the bride/bride’s family picks up the costs of those in the bridal party and this includes the dresses. However, as more couples have started to pay for their own weddings, they have put the cost of being in the wedding back on those participating which means the bridesmaids pay for their own. The mother of the bride and the mother of the groom may choose whatever they wish to wear (although they usually ensure it coordinates with the wedding colors) and are responsible for paying for their own outfits. Winter weddings have different needs and requirements to summer ones and it does not make sense to expect them to look the same.
Firstly, the scenery will look different in winter. Instead of the soft shades of summer the scenery will be much stronger with bold contrasts. The natural lighting will usually be dimmer than summertime and you will need a slightly more striking make-up look rather than a light summery one if you are to look your most beautiful on the day and in the photographs.
Make sure your foundation is as near to your own colouring as possible. It should even out your skin tone and keep your face looking fresh and youthful but should not turn you orange! If you are very pale a natural shade of bronzer can be brushed over the entire face after the foundation has been set with loose powder.
If your skin tone is warm consider gold, bronze, toffee and cocoa shades for your eyes.
Your cheeks will need a blusher with a warm tone. Although a light peachy shade might work in the summer, go for something with a little more depth for winter, such as a deeper coral or nutmeg. For your lips try a striking terracotta, cinnamon or warm red but if you feel these are too heavy for your colouring and bridal look go for a more subtle, sheer coral or copper.
If your skin tone is cool you will need less of a golden look and more of the cool tones. For eyes choose silvers, grey, pewter and mushroom shades. Your blusher will need to be a medium to deep pink or mauve unless you are very fair and then a delicate pink will work. For the lips again the look needs to be cool so try raspberry reds, rose-pink shades or burgundies.
