how much should a freelance makeup artist charge?
Im just starting out as a freelance makeup artist and really have no idea how much i should be charging my clients. Since i am just starting out i dont want to charge too much but at the same time i dont want to charge too little. The products i’ll be using range from makeup that can be found at target like Milani, all the way to up scale products like MAC and Dior. And i also plan on getting an airbrush kit so i need to know how much extra a should charge for that. Also Ill be traveling to my clients for appointments. My services incude:
Weddings- how much should i charge the bride and also the bridal party.
all other formal events such as highschool dances etc…
Fantacy makeup such as halloween makeup and/or theatrical makeup-since fantacy makeup tense to take awhile, how much should be charged for that?
Photo ready makeup
So if anyone could please help me out with opinions/advise/suggestions it would be so helpful!!!!!
I’m doing a makeup course at the moment and one of my teachers who has been a freelance makeup artist for…manyyyy years, and still is, he said when you first start out to charge around $60, for the test thing AND another $60 for the real thing. And not to do the test thing for free, because lots of people just want the test thing and say its for a wedding or something but its actually just so they get free makeup for a night out that night or whatever.
And that $60 is in australian dollars, so it would be about $50 US
